Orca Whales, Calm Seas, and Sunshine Captain Carl reports that our guests are watching Orca Whales. Stay tuned for more details on today’s tour.
The afternoon trip took us out into Rosario Strait where we found some harbor porpoise. We went through Thatcher Pass and headed down Upright Channel. We had a great look at the Cattle Point Lighthouse. As we made our way up the west side of San Juan Island, right near Lime Kiln Lighthouse, we found not one, but two minke whales! We didn’t stay for long because there were orcas right up ahead and we didn’t want them to turn and head away from us. We found some L-pod whales. We were able to identify Nigel, Racer, Fluke, Bellena, Baba, Crewser, Spirit, Skana, Solstice, Mystery and Alexis. We got some amazing looks as they all went by Kellett Bluff on Henry Island. We spent some quality time with them before we had to head home. This time we went through the inner islands. We saw some harbor seals hauled out on some rocks near Bell Island and an osprey in the nest on Crane Island. It was great evening on the water, so peaceful and we even had a great look at the moon rising over Ship Harbor on Fidalgo Island.
