On behalf of patients in our community’s hospitals, I wish to extend our thanks. During your blood drive on September 7, Puget Sound Blood Center registered 51 donors and collected 47 units of blood. This will benefit up to 141 patients.

Thanks to all the donors who took time out of their busy day to donate blood. With great appreciation to Claire Zaugra for organizing the drive, Island Hospital for blood drive sponsorship, Mike Pearl for his help promoting the blood drive, Anacortes American and anacortesscoop for their assistance in getting the word out about the blood drive, and the Island Hospital volunteers who helped on the day of the blood drive. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Each weekday, 900 people must donate blood to meet the needs of patients in western Washington hospitals. Your blood drive has played an important role in helping meet that goal.

The following patients are just a few of the many who have received blood from Puget Sound Blood Center in the past few days. The blood was available for them, thanks to blood drives like yours:

14 year old patient: Cardiopulmonary bypass. Patient used: 8 units Red Blood Cells and 1 unit Plasma.
22 year old patient: Cardiac Arrest. Patient used: 14 units Red Blood Cells, 12 units Plasma, 6 Cryoprecipitate units and 4 units Platelets.
37 year old patient: Obstetric bleeding.. Patient used: 25 units Red Blood cells, 22 units Plasma, 3 units Platelets and 3 Cryoprecipitate units
19 year old patient: Motor Vehicle Accident. Patient used: 14 units Red Blood Cells, 17 units Plasma, and 2 Platelet units.
53 year old patient: Heart Transplant. Patient used: 17 units Red Blood Cells, 26 units Plasma, 6 units Platelets and 3 Cryoprecipitate units.
