A touching celebration of life for Dr. Keith Anderson was held a week later, however closure for the family would be complete if they could find out what happened to their loved one.

  Anderson disappeared January 6, 2010 with only his truck being found approximately 3 weeks later in a remote area. The family knows that Anderson has more than likely  passed away but would like to find out what happened and bring their loved one home to rest in Anacortes. If the questions are never answered about his whereabouts, the funds from the Search For Keith Fund will be used to start a scholarship in his name. 

 Dr. Anderson, as he was referred to for years at Anacortes High School, was a beloved counselor and spend his years helping teens with the most difficult time in their life.  He will undoubtably be missed by the community,  many heavy hearts will remain untill the questions of his disappearance are found.

Here are just a few of the many patients who received blood transfusions in the past few days. The blood was available for them, thanks to donors like you: 

• 14 year old patient: Cardiopulmonary bypass. Patient used: 8 units Red Blood Cells and 1 unit Plasma. 
• 22 year old patient: Cardiac Arrest. Patient used: 14 units Red Blood Cells, 12 units Plasma, 6 Cryoprecipitate units and 4 units Platelets. 
• 37 year old patient: Obstetric bleeding..Patient used: 25 units Red Blood cells, 22 units Plasma, 3 units Platelets and 3 Cryoprecipitate units 
• 19 year old patient: Motor Vehicle Accident. Patient used: 14 units Red Blood Cells, 17 units Plasma, and 2 Platelet units. 
• 53 year old patient: Heart Transplant. Patient used: 17 units Red Blood Cells, 26 units Plasma, 6 units Platelets and 3 Cryoprecipitate units.

 This Book Dishes Up Fresh and Local Recipes, Tips and Resources Lovers of local food won’t want to miss Skagit Valley’s just-released, homegrown cookbook, “Serving the Skagit Harvest”. The book contains over 100 recipes and tips from 50 contributors in the Skagit Valley.

The cookbook also introduces you to some fascinating folks. Meet a woman who gardens in a wooded area of Bow and another on the banks of the Swinomish Channel, a fellow who grows food at the base of Mount Erie and one who gardens in a sun-challenged yard in Concrete.

Books can be purchased for $20 at Eat Your Yard events and selected outlets in Skagit County, including Skagit Valley Food Co-op in Mount Vernon, and Ace Hardware, Pelican Bay Used Books, and Watermark Book Company in Anacortes. Eat Your Yard, a project of Skagit Beat the Heat, runs workshops to teach beginning gardeners how to grow food in their own backyards. Sessions regularly attract from 40 to 80 people at the Anacortes Public Library. Welcome back to all of our current students and parents, as well as a heartfelt welcome from our staff to all of our new students and families.

Our teachers and staff are busy planning and preparing to ensure every student experiences tremendous academic and behavioral growth over the course of this coming school year. I know our staff will bring a “can do attitude” when teaching and working with our students.

There are several activities taking place to help our students and parents have a smooth and successful transition into the new school year. “Meet & Greets” and “Open Houses” are times to meet and visit your child’s teachers, visit the school and classrooms. “Curriculum Nights” are a chance to see and hear the learning standards and instructional materials your child will be experiencing this school year. It is also a time to find out how best to help your child experience a successful school year.

A Brush fire on Mt. Erie has been burning for several hours now. The Islands Chapter of the Red Cross is on the scene and approximately 35 fire fighters have been assisting from  the Anacortes Fire Department, Department 13, and Department 11. The brush fire has been burning for several hours, and several more hours are expected before the fire is extinguished.  At this time special thanks are extended to the Anacortes Pizza Factory and the Anacortes McDonalds for their gracious donations to the local fire fighters.  Details to follow later…
